About the tour

Overview

The Daintree Rainforest is a world-heritage site in Tropical North Queensland. This rainforest has incredible biodiversity of plant and animal species that are found nowhere else on this planet; such as the rare tree kangaroo and 6 foot tall prehistoric birds called Cassowaries. This mystical place is located on the Great Barrier Reef and gives you a superb contrast of jungle and sea. The Daintree rainforest is also the oldest rainforest on the planet. A half of Australia’s bird species, a third of its mammals and frogs, and a quarter of its reptiles and over 1200 insects reside in the Daintrees. Many of these animals have characteristics of creatures found during the dinosaurs times.

Start your day in either Cairns or Port Douglas. Transfers from Cairns will have you experience a coastal drive along the rugged cliffs, overlooking amazing coastal views (this will be an early morning transfer to Port Douglas where you will start your tour). Your journey starts with a private crocodile and wilderness cruise along the Daintree River. You may spot saltwater crocodiles that are up to 6 meters long as you journey through intricate networks of mangroves, and enjoy the views of the the river and mountain range. You will then take a short cable ferry over the river as you enter the oldest rainforest on Earth, the Daintree Rainforest. Take a stroll through the lush rainforest on the Jindalba Boardwalk. Your private tour guide will explain the ecosystem of the forest. Moments away, you will be high above the canopy, overlooking the beautiful Alexandra Lookout. You will be able to see the Daintree River, mountain range, and lush rainforest. As you continue up the road, be on the lookout for the Cassowary- a prehistoric, endangered bird that only lives in this region of Australia and some parts of Papua New Guinea. Try a very unique native ice cream made from the exotic fruits on the farm. Tropical flavors include whatever is in season. You will then reach a point that connects two world-heritage sites, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Stroll through Cape Tribulation beach and enjoy a unique wander through a Fan Palm Rainforest, the Dubjil Boardwalk.
